About our fine printsВ стародавние времена на том месте, где сейчас плещет волнами Телецкое озеро, пролегала в окружении высоких обрывистых гор долина, глубокая и узкая. А на склонах гор, по обеим сторонам долины жили два могучих богатыря, и каждый из них считал, что только он достоин права владеть этой долиной. Не раз они пытались отстоять друг у друга это право в жестоких поединках, но ни один из них не мог победить другого.
И не было никому здесь покоя из-за этих ссор. Разгневались на богатырей духи вод и гор, призвали их к себе и повелели: "Прекратите ссоры и драки. Чтобы решить ваш спор назначаем мы вам такое испытание — кто первый из вас произнесёт слово "женщина", тот и потеряет право на долину на веки вечные".
Разошлись богатыри по своим аилам и, чтобы запретное слово невзначай не произнести, вообще разговаривать перестали. Так и сидели по разным сторонам долины друг против друга и молчали.
Так проходили дни, недели, месяцы, годы.… Но, вот однажды утром, когда лучи солнца окрасили вершины гор, богатыри увидели, что внизу, в долине вдоль ручья идёт женщина красоты неописуемой. И не сдержались богатыри, её красотой потрясённые, оба одновременно воскликнули: "О, как прекрасна эта женщина".
Закрыли тут небо тучи чёрные, засверкали змеями молнии, и загрохотал оглушительными раскатами гром. А на долину опустился густой молочный туман и спрятал от глаз богатырей прекрасную женщину. Долго бушевала стихия, но, наконец, всё утихло, выглянуло солнце, рассеялся туман…, и ахнули тут богатыри — на месте долины перекатывало волны глубокое озеро! Долго стояли по берегам озера богатыри, вглядываясь в прозрачные воды в надежде увидеть ту, что так поразила их сердца, но, так и не предстала красавица пред их очами.
Но появляется иногда эта красавица перед молодыми охотниками и рыбаками, если на свой промысел они выходят в одиночку. И, горе им, если поддадутся они её чарам — увлечёт она их с собой в пучину глубокую. Но, если выдержат они её соблазны, то пошлёт она рыбаку улов богатый, а охотнику — добычу крупную и впредь будет оберегать их от внезапных порывов ветра и волны штормовой.
