Goran Zigolic, known as Ziggy, was born in 1966 in Djakovo, Croatia. Currently residing in Zagreb, he has been deeply immersed in the visual arts from a young age. Ziggy completed his education at the Painting Academy "Agora" in Zagreb, where he also collaborated with other professional painters on nudes and basic drawing techniques.
In recent years, Ziggy has focused on creating sculptures using recycled wood and old metal parts, often repurposed from ships. However, his primary ion lies in watercolor painting, with additional interests in drawing, charcoal, and pencil. He works on various types of paper, including 100% cotton and cellulose paper, which requires swift execution due to its quick-drying nature. Ziggy believes that the unpredictability of water in painting is a game of the artist's mind and technique, yielding remarkable results through practice and patience.
Ziggy is particularly concerned with capturing the human body, female nudes, horses, and cityscapes. He views inspiration as the product of dedicated work rather than waiting for it to appear. For him, inspiration often emerges from the unconscious blending of effort and time spent in his craft.
He adheres to the philosophy of "Nulla dies sine linea" (No day without a line), meaning he works daily. His ongoing questioning and dissatisfaction with his work contribute to a slow but steady progress. Ziggy believes that the development of personality, maturation, and life experience are crucial to the authenticity of his paintings, all achieved through hard work and ion.
Ziggy views painting as a means to perceive the world differently—honestly, personally, yet universally. He hopes that his art contributes to making the world a slightly better place by connecting people and highlighting the beauty within them. He has learned from some of the greatest watercolorists, including E. Seago, Winslow Homer, J.S. Sargent, H. Peckel, Z. Kauzlarić-Atač, A. Mateš, S. Raškaj, J. Zbukvic, and A. Castagnet.
