Elle est la fille du saxophoniste ténor néerlandais Hans Dulfer. En 1984, Candy Dulfer forme son propre groupe, Funky Stuff. Le groupe est invité à jouer pour Madonna lors d'une partie de sa tournée européenne. Elle est révélée au grand public par Prince, qui l'engage dans son groupe de musiciens et l'introduit au grand public dans son clip Partyman en 1989. Elle joue sur les albums Batman Soundtrack, Graffiti Bridge, Xpectation, Musicology, 3121 du même artiste américain.
