A common sight near historical Buddhist Temples in Sri Lanka.

Lotus; Nelumbo; Nelum or commonly known as Water Lily comes in mesmerising colours of White, Pink, Yellow, Red and bi-colours.

A symbol of purity, enlightenment, and rebirth. These flowers are rooting in the murky waters but stand up high looking magnificent and pure; representing the purity of human body and mind floating above the dirty material attachments and physical desires in life.
It is known the first 07 steps of Gautama Buddha made the day he was born , lotus flowers appeared every step of the way under his feet.
So the Buddhists regard Lotus flowers as a special offering to Lord Buddha when praying.
These flowers are usually plucked before they bloom for offering. The flower naturally blooms in to full after few hours of plucking, so they will have to just make it in time to the temple grounds.

The lovely Lotus Seller will carefully organise the best Buds ready for offering, leaving the slightest rotten ones aside. A small dog might sometimes guard this pretty lady the whole day. A cup of ginger black tea will keep her refreshed.
She would sit on a hand woven mat from the leaves of Hana - a hemp grown in the wild.
Some more wild flowers, and lots of medicinal herbs can be seen in her little outdoor shop.
Betel leaves on the top left as you see take up a prominent place on the offering tray alongside Lotus representing Prosperity.

Hiranya is a classical figurative artist based in Brisbane, Australia.
She exclusively produces works derived from memories and experiences
through various reflexions of today’s social, cultural and economic ambience.
Bold colours and symbolism are a focus point.

She is currently working on two series, a Summer-floral themed series and another called 'Tea Room' which is a personal fascination.
Summer-floral theme is titled "FLORA'S SECRET" where the artist is breaking all the boundaries of colour and patterns with lots of details around the female identity.
"TEA ROOM" series on the other hand stays within stripe patterns on the subject's outfit, starting from simpler-minimal story to sophisticated tales with her personal favourites; colourful tea cups and tea pots, and all other details come with it.

Each work takes its own significant time to finish based on the amount of details going in.
The beauty of every aspect and little details of each work is extremely important to the artist.
Hence they are carefully realised.
