Né en 1970 dans la ville de Carpentras, Ivan Calatayud commence à peindre à se ionnant pour les maitres de l’école de Paris : Modigliani, Soutine, Léger, Yves Brayer... puis plus tard, des peintres avec une touche plus contemporaine comme De Staël. Toutes ces influences se retrouvent dans l’oeuvre de l’artiste, lequel, peint avec "une touche la plus libre possible". Son travail de recherche évolutif lui fait détruire les deux tiers de sa production, tandis que ses motifs principaux tendent à se simplifier. Il puise dans les paysages de la Provence ses principaux sujets.
