Prelude: This work is from the curated group exhibition 'Remnants of Presence'. One of the conceptual challenges for each artist was to approach a work with subject matter in-two-parts to show current practice/new work development and be shown together.

Visible Traces is about Renewal, a Journey of Experiences and Time age. Part A makes up the two outer side canvas s, on each side of the new work (part B). It consists of 3 s.

A) The makes reference to the initial inspirations from: the natural environment, the human figure, various motifs including banana fibre made receptacles/vessels and evolved symbology.

B) Prior artwork imagery and object 'remnants' were used for the initial stimuli and also represents my 'presence'. All is fused into an abstract composition.

It is a collective tribute to the shapes, forms, patterns, and textures etc that were the initial inspirations, the visible signage. Organic, gestural and spontaneous in feel (energy), with collage and mixed media processes mingled with my personal symbolism.

The work provides the viewer with facets and moments. Although ambiguous, there are sufficient visual markers i.e. ages, to draw them in to discover further information and help them to intuitively and conceptually complete what they may perceive in each work (now the remnant) and to sense the presence of the artist (spirit).

Acrylic

Paint using traditional pigments mixed with synthetic resins.

Charcoal

Drawing made with a branch of Willow or charcoal of charred Europe. It enables to obtain very deep blacks, precise traces, thin or on the contrary very broad, depending on the way it is used.

Conté

Colored drawing made with colored pencil, an instrument made of a small wooden stick used as a sheath for a colored mine of the same length.

Ink

A strongly tinted liquid or paste that is used to mark paper or other printable materials. The design is done manually with a slab, feather, brush, or straightener.

Oil

Paint consisting of pigments bound with linseed oil or carnations. The traditional technique consists of superimposing layers of paint increasingly rich in oil for a solid and durable hanger.

Painting Pastel

Pastel is an instrument widely used in plastic arts. Taking the form of a colored plastic stick, it is composed of pigments, a filler (chalk or plaster) and a binder (gum arabic, oil, wax). We mainly distinguish fatty pastels (oil or wax), dry pastels, whether soft or hard. Invented in Europe at the end of the 15th century, this tool was very quickly used by great portrait painters of French royalty, such as Charles Le Brun, Rosalba Carriera, Jean Siméon Chardin or Maurice Quentin de La Tour, who will be considered the "Prince of pastellists", thanks to a method of fixation of which only he knew the secret.

Pastel

Drawing made with a colored stick. It consists of pigments, a charge and a binder. A distinction is made between dry pastels (soft or hard) and fatty pastels (oil or wax).

The stencil is a technique that allows you to reproduce a pattern using a pre-cut plate that is superimposed on the .

Collages

Collage is an artistic creation technique that consists of making a plastic creation by combining elements of various kinds: more or less flat materials, such as printed oilcloth, painting or drawing, newspaper extracts with text and photos, paper paintings, documents, various objects of low relief, etc. When the creation incorporates elements in relief, one can also speak of assemblage. This also includes glued papers, which employ a variety of papers, including newspaper, and drawing techniques.
