Laurent Boucheron is a contemporary French sculptor who has long been ionate about expressing himself through volume and form. After studying computer science, he merged his technical training with his love for sculpture, becoming one of the pioneers of 3D computer graphics. In 1990, he designed and produced a short animated film presented at “Imagina” and broadcast on Canal+. Two years later, he began teaching 3D graphics at the Estienne School.
Despite his success in the virtual realm, Boucheron found greater fulfillment in working directly with physical materials. In 1993, he discovered stone sculpture, sparking a lifelong ion. He practiced direct carving at G. Vernaujoux's workshop for four years before establishing his own studio, where he uses electric and pneumatic tools to shape his works.
Inspired increasingly by nature, Boucheron integrates branches with stone in his sculptures and installations. His approach involves confronting and engaging with natural materials like wood and stone, transforming their organic forms. He balances the raw beauty of untouched material with sections that are vigorously worked, polished, and shaped, mimicking the effects of natural elements like air or water. Moving away from figuration, Boucheron’s work seeks to evoke the vital flows and transformations that occur in nature.
