Throughout our lives we constantly balance between different emotions, between pain and happiness, anger and serenity and similar feelings. In the eyes of my paintings I try to capture them as if we were experiencing them at the same time.
In my work I focus on the performative symbolic structure of painting. I draw on the experience of Michel Foucault, on his analysis of the relationship between painting as an object and painting as an illusory volume, renewed by the impressionists. I am looking for ways to articulate the ambivalence of the very nature of the image – enclosed in a frame and simultaneously revealed into virtual layers of consciousness. I strive to mark the midpoint of oscillation, which is localized precisely in optics, in perception.
I do not paint portraits, I do not try to formulate a question or an answer, but I create a reason to doubt the usual interpretation, the Lacanian Real. In this I focus on Magritte’s iteration of surrealism, with its visionary entry into the logic of conceptual art and even further into the process of oscillation. I discard traditional aesthetic gradations, creating a painting-object with which the viewer independently comes into visual .

The artwork was made using the author's technique of multi-layer oil painting on quality linen canvas. The artwork is stretched on a stretcher, the ends are 4 cm wide and are a continuation of the painting. Completely ready to hang and can be used without a frame if desired.

Margarita Ivanova is a contemporary Russian painter based in Armenia. Her work delves into the intricacies of human existence and the interconnectedness of individuals within society. She focuses her artistic lens on the concept of personhood, capturing it in its pure essence and as an integral component of the larger social fabric.

Drawing inspiration from the natural world, Margarita often invokes the analogy of a birch forest to convey the complexity of human relationships and the dynamics of contemporary life. Much like the birch trees in her paintings, individuals in society are interconnected, forming an endless chain of human experiences. In her artwork, one can see the proximity of people to one another, their positions relative to each other - some nearby, some above, some below. Yet, Margarita skillfully illustrates that regardless of one's position in this intricate chain, they exist in the middle, for the true origin and conclusion of this human continuum remain shrouded in uncertainty.

Margarita's artistic approach is a fusion of realism and the metamodernist philosophy, blending a tangible representation of human figures with the abstract notions of metamodernism. Her subjects are often depicted in a constant state of balance, teetering between internal and external, personal and collective, real and virtual, obvious and hidden. Even the birch trees in her works mirror this fluctuation, at times appearing realistic, at others, taking on a virtual, vector-like quality. Margarita's art blurs the boundaries between these different dimensions, emphasizing that the line of our lives exists in the ambiguity and the uncertainty of the world around us.
