Glossy finish

The casino, a place where fortune and desire intersect, becomes a metaphor for human relationships. The question posed by the title, Call the Play?, is not just about a gamble or a flirtation — it’s about agency. Who controls the moment? Who watches whom? Who acts, and who waits?
Gorbachova’s thick, expressive brushwork and carefully restrained palette echo postwar European figurative expressionism, recalling the interior stillness of Edward Hopper and the social tension of Balthus. The oil’s physicality enhances the emotional architecture — this is a painting that vibrates with layered meaning.
