Chen Qiang is a contemporary Chinese painter and sculptor born in Hainan Province, China. From 1989 to 1993, he studied at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of renowned artists such as Xu Jianbai and Liang Mingcheng. During this period, he participated in the creation of numerous domestic oil paintings and public art projects on various themes.
In 2013, Chen Qiang held his solo exhibition Asking for Directions in Nanjing, China, which garnered significant attention. His notable oil paintings, including Hundred War Stars, Horse Raising Meeting, and Nanxiong Meeting, have been acquired by prominent museums, while Village Meeting is part of the Asia (Hong Kong) Art Foundation’s collection. His work has also been featured in major art trade fairs such as the Guangzhou Art Trade Fair (2014), Shanghai Art Trade Fair (2016), and Shenzhen Art Trade Fair (2021). Chen Qiang's creations are held in private collections in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, the United States, Australia, South Korea, Switzerland, and Japan. In June 2024, he completed a large-scale thematic relief for Central South University.
Chen Qiang's art reflects a profound foundation and a unique artistic vision. His works employ bold, free, and powerful brushstrokes combined with smooth, nuanced colors to create a striking internal tension. By separating the spiritual essence of subjects from their physical forms and exploring various media, he achieves harmony within contradictions and confrontations. His art invites viewers to deeply reflect on life and the meaning of artistic expression.
