C’est le monde qui se déroule dans l’art d’Ackerman, un monde où se lisent en filigrane les différentes facettes de la vie humaine, un monde qui va se peupler, au fur et à mesure que l’artiste avance dans sa création. Son travail oscille entre une complexité fascinante et un univers inspiré par Malévitch. Sa créativité puise dans ses racines et se nourrit de diverses influences. Il peint des paysages de la Terre Sainte à la mystique juive, mais également des paysages parisiens et des autoportraits qui reflètent les tourments de notre époque.

Né en 1951 à Moukatchevo (Ukraine), à la frontière entre la Slovaquie et la Hongrie, dans une famille de survivants de la Shoah, Samuel Ackerman est diplômé de l’Académie de l’Art monumental d’Oujgorod, un lieu ouvert à la culture occidentale. Parmi ses influences de jeunesse figurent notamment les coutumes des Tsiganes et des Houtsoules, peuple montagnard chanté par Sergueï Paradjanov, les traditions juives de l’Europe central et l'art populaire ukrainien.
