Sophie Gerin is a contemporary French artist trained in engraving at the School of Fine Arts in Versailles. She focuses on engraving, oil paintings, and watercolors, with a style that evokes lyrical abstraction, characterized by mixed techniques and an intense use of light. Greatly influenced by Friedrich's notion of the sublime, she explores the contrast between the threshold and the infinite, working on themes of emptiness and light.
Gerin creates landscapes and portraits that are both subtle and mysterious, dreamlike, or imaginary, expressing the elusive aspects of our world. Her aim is to convey a powerful emotional force, transmitting feelings of beauty, love, and peace. Her work can be viewed by appointment at the Gallery "This is not Belgium" in Ohain 1380, near Brussels.
