Victor Molev's painting "Island of Lost Cats" is a visual poem filled with warmth and mystical charm. A small island surrounded by an endless calm sea becomes a refuge for cats - or perhaps their souls. The house that occupies the entire area of the island resembles a fairy-tale castle overgrown with grass and flowers, as if nature and architecture have merged, creating a harmonious space beyond time.
The cats, of which there are 21, move freely around the island, as if they were its true owners. Their presence fills the picture with a sense of comfort and mystery. Perhaps these are not just animals, but symbols of independence, mystery and eternal wandering. The stairs leading to the sea seem to invite the viewer to think: where does it lead? To another world? To infinity?
The author of the painting suggests the idea of a cat paradise, where there are no worries, no dangers, only peace and freedom. This thought warms the soul, because in this world, according to the artist, not only dogs, but also cats always find the way to paradise. The painting becomes not just an image, but a philosophical reflection on the nature of the soul, on a place where everyone can find peace. Victor Molev is a contemporary award-winning Canadian artist. He is working in the styles of Decorative Realism, Fantasy, Symbolism and Surrealism. In the mid-1970s, as an aspiring young artist, he took drawing and painting lessons under the apprenticeship of Moscow sculptor Tatyana Vishnyakova. But it wasn’t until his early twenties that Molev became familiar with the works of Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, Rene Magritte, M.C. Escher and Frank Frazetta through books and magazines. Molev was incredibly inspired by these artists which became like mentors to him.
After receiving an education in architecture, the artist worked in the field for ten years. He then worked as a set designer at the Pushkin Opera and Ballet Theater. Both of these jobs are still reflected in the creative processes of the artist. He has created his own unique and intuitive world of dreams and absurdity. His works are sincerely naive and kind.
Victor Molev was born in 1955, in Gorky, Russia. His works were exhibited all over the world, including the Art Museum of Saint-Frajou, . Molev has also participated in numerous international competitions of humorous drawing, and won numerous silver and bronze medals.
